Restrictions for reclaimed water implemented

Pinellas County, Florida -- The season reclaimed water restrictions for Pinellas County reclaimed water customers will begin on Monday, April 1.

These reductions help avoid reclaimed water shortages during Florida’s traditional dry seasons which is April to June and October to November.

From April 1 to June 30, irrigation with reclaimed water supplied by Pinellas County is limited to three days per week, based on the resident's home address. The mandatory seasonal restrictions state:

Pinellas County, Florida -- It is only few months until the start of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, and now is the prime time for residents to review their survival plans.

Activities such as outdoor improvements and adding additional bracing to an attic can be easier to accomplish in the cooler months.

2012 Atlantic hurricane season reaches halfway point

Pinellas County, Florida -- Tropical Storm Debby. Tropical Storm Isaac. The 2012 Atlantic hurricane season has certainly been an active one, and Sept. 1 just marks the halfway point.

Statistically, the majority of the activity for the season is yet to come. Since the hurricane record began in 1855, nearly 55 percent of all tropical storms and hurricanes form during the months of September and October. Heavy rains impact sanitary sewer system

Recent heavy rains are having a negative impact on Pinellas County’s wastewater treatment facilities.

Rainfall from Tuesday evening, Aug. 21, resulted in 60 million gallons of water entering the system at South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Facility. The facility is permitted for an average inflow of 33 million gallons per day.

Excessive volumes of water entering wastewater treatment facilities can result in sanitary sewer system overflows. These overflows are inevitable when inflows exceed the capacity to treat.

The National Hurricane Center has placed the Tampa Bay area in the four-day cone of uncertainty for the approach of Tropical Storm Isaac. This means there is the possibility that the area may experience some impact from the storm during the next four days.

Disaster recovery center closing on Aug. 4

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state of Florida’s joint disaster recovery center will close 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4.

The center is located in the Park Station business complex, 5851 Park Blvd. in Pinellas Park.

The office will be opened from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. six days a week, and from noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday. Additionally, local governments and non-profit agencies have until Thursday, Aug. 9, to apply for public assistance grants.
