Vaccines protecting children from diseases such as measles, whooping cough and polio are administered on a regular schedule as part of a child's course of care. Pediatricians, health providers and county health departments can provide vaccines at no cost to parents as part of the Vaccines for Children program.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Park Services department has announced the launch of their new, free mobile application, which will serve as an interactive guide for users on the go at any of Florida's 171 parks, trails and historic sites.

Register now for second high school teachers workshop

Tampa Bay, Florida -- All Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate high school teachers from Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Manatee and Sarasota counties are invited to participate in a one-day workshop at The University of Tampa on Saturday, Feb. 23, to learn how to inspire students to take their interest in chemistry outside of the classroom.

The free event will be held in the Plant Hall Music Room on campus from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes lunch. The media is welcome to attend.

Over 175 students to present projects at District Science Fair

Pinellas County, Florida -- On Feb. 9, over 175 students will present their projects at the Pinellas County Schools District Science Fair at Seminole Middle School

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Largo High School on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. Some winners of the District Science Fair will have the opportunity to take their projects and compete in the 2013 State Science Fair.

PTEC campuses host regional SkillsUSA competition this week

More than 500 students from Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties are expected to compete in the two-day SkillsUSA regional competition Feb. 6 - 7 at pTEC, Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

Students will compete in numerous categories including automotive service technology, cosmetology, welding, photography, and plumbing.
