Pinellas County, Florida -- Thinking of adopting a pet sometime soon? In August, Pinellas County Animal Services will be celebrating all month by offering reduced adoption costs for both dogs and cats. 

During the month of August, $5 rabies vaccinations with the purchase of a license will be available for pets each Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. The adoption fee will be reduced to $25.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Pinellas County Animal Services will be closed on Tuesday, May 21 for in-service day. 

This will affect the Pinellas County Animal Services located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in largo.

Regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will resume on May 22.

Photo contest for kids

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Humane Society of Pinellas is holding a photography contest for kids!

In honor of "Be Kind to Animals Week" children and teens can enter the contest by submitting a photo they took of a pet being treated kindly- or is just happy. There will be two age groups: 6-11 years and 11-16  years. 

The contest will run now through May 31 and is open to all children between the ages of 6 adn 16. 

New hours for Pinellas County Animal Services

New hours for Pinellas County Animal Services

Pinellas County, Florida -- Starting Monday, April 1, Pinellas County Animal Services will be open an extra hour each day.

The shelter’s hours of operation are now Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the adoption center closing at 5:30 p.m. Saturday’s hours are also expanded. They are now 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services include adoptions. 

Shelter services include dog and cat adoptions, pet licensing and reclaiming lost pets. In addition, a licensed veterinarian administers rabies vaccines on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. No appointments are necessary.

Pinellas County Animal Services needs teen volunteers

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County Animal Services is seeking responsible teen volunteers to help leader volunteers with dog walking. Teens must be between the ages of 16 and 18 and must commit to 12 hours per week at the shelter. The eight-week program will begin on Monday, June 10, and end on Friday, Aug. 16.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County Animal Services will close its offices on Tuesday, March 26, for staff development and long-term planning.

Animal Services will reopen on Wednesday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Residents are reminded that, starting Monday, April 1, the shelter’s hours of operation will be Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the adoption center closing at 5:30 p.m. Expanded Saturday hours will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturday services will include adoptions. Rabies vaccinations are now administered on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
