Bicyclist attacked in broad daylight in Madeira Beach
News

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. -- A 57-year-old bicyclist was stabbed and slashed in broad daylight Wednesday in an alley between Publix and the Intracoastal Waterway, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators said the victim was riding toward American Legion Drive when another man approached him on a bike, distracted him by saying he had dropped something off his bicycle, and attacked him with a knife when the victim stopped to look down.

He suffered a puncture wound to the stomach and slashes to his left arm, but managed to punch and fight off the suspect, who fled the scene.

The victim was taken to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. His name is being withheld because his attacker is still at large.

The incident happened at 2:45 p.m. and prompted a land and air search of the area. The suspect took no valuables, deputies said, and was described only as a black male riding a bike.
