Beach Theatre goes dark

St. Pete Beach, Florida -- After 73 years, the big screen at the Beach Theatre went dark last weekend. The France family cannot say when, or if, the theatre will reopen.

Last Saturday night was supposed to be the final show, a midnight "Rocky Horror Picture Show" with the live cast, Interchangeable Parts, performing in front of the screen.

The Pinellas County Solid Waste Division has a tenuous connection to The Sopranos, 30 Rock and Modern Family—all Emmy award winners.

A documentary called “Away: A Story of Trash” was videotaped at Solid Waste last year and has been nominated for a Suncoast Regional Emmy. The Suncoast Chapter is an official regional chapter within the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences that recognizes excellence in regional television markets.

Treasure Island, Florida -- Monte Carlo night is taking place Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Community Center, located at 1 Park Place & 106th Avenue.

Tickets $50 per person or $90 per couple and includes $2,500 play money and 2 complimentary drinks and appetizers.

Blackjack, roulette tables, crap tables, 3 card poker, Texas Hold 'em and slot machines will be part of the action.

The event is presented by the Treasure Island Chamber of Commerce.

Swigwam loses outdoor drinking privileges

St. Pete Beach – The big wooden chairs outside the Swigwam have to go, says the majority of the St. Pete Beach commission.

Referencing a “flood of calls,” District One’s freshman commissioner Lorraine Huhn said she thought the city should revoke the Swigwam’s right to allow people to drink in front of the bar.

Friday Flicks in the Park

Treasure Island -- The City of Treasure Island will present its Friday Flicks in the Park on the 2nd and 4th Friday in June and July.

It will be at the Treasure Island Community Center Park located at 106th Avenue and Gulf Blvd. The event begins at 7 p.m. with food vendors and activities for the children, with the movies beginning at 9 p.m.

The schedule is as follows:

June 8th - "Dolphin Tale"

June 22nd - "Puss in Boots"

July 13th - "Big Miracle"

Treasure Island - Bands in the Sand 4 will be held Saturday, May 26 & Sunday, May 27 from noon to 9 p.m., on the beach at 104th Avenue & Gulf Boulevard.

It's two days of live rock, blues, pop, Americana and alternative country on the beach.
